Using Arrow Object Storage with Commvault
Integrating Arrow Object Storage with Commvault enables enterprises to take advantage of cloud-based object storage as a scalable, S3-compatible backup target. This approach is ideal for long-term retention and offsite backup scenarios, providing operational efficiency and data durability.
Key Requirements
- A running Commvault backup environment
- Arrow Object Storage S3 credentials (access key, secret key, endpoint URL)
- A configured S3 bucket in Arrow Object Storage
Configuration Overview
1. Configure a Cloud Storage Library
- In Commvault Command Center or CommCell Console, create a new cloud storage library
- Select “S3 Compatible” as the vendor type
- Enter the Arrow endpoint, credentials, and the bucket name
2. Create a Storage Policy
- Associate the new cloud storage library with a storage policy
- Define retention rules and deduplication settings if applicable
3. Assign to Backup Clients
- Apply the storage policy to backup sets or subclients
- Schedule backups as required and monitor status through Commvault reports
4. Network and Security
- Ensure secure connection (HTTPS) to Arrow endpoint
- Optionally use client-side encryption and data compression for efficient and secure transfers
Benefits
- Seamless integration with Commvault’s policy-based data management
- Highly durable and cost-effective storage for long-term backups
- Reduced infrastructure maintenance via cloud-based storage
